TUTORIAL: EMBROIDERED BUTTON

EMBROIDERY MATERIALS YOU WILL NEED

EMBROIDERED BUTTON FINAL RESULT

Working on the embroidered collection has opened the doors to a variety of wondrous sewing techniques. Today we are featuring a simple and easy tutorial on how to personalize a piece of clothing using buttons.

The technique is fairly simple, and in this case we’ve followed a simple design that involves using thread to create a flower or leaf design on a button. We use a variety of colors to create contrast and add depth to the small details. With a little practice and patience, you will be able to create your own embroidered buttons, making them the focus of attention on any garment.

What you need:

· A button with 4 holes (we recommend a light-colored button)

· 2 different colors of embroidery thread. One for the stem and one for the flower.

· Needle

· Pins

· Scrap fabric

START OF THE FLOWER STEM ELABORATION

First, hold the button such that the holes form a cross (north-south-east-west) and thread the needle with the stem-colored thread, we chose green, and pass it through the holes north to south.

Once you have your thread pulled down, take a pin and slide it under the thread. Let it rest across the button to give it some play and ensure neither the thread nor the fabric are too tight.

TIE-OFF TO CHANGE THREAD COLOR

Next, take the needle and come up through the bottom hole and pass it through the right hole to create a leaf on the stem. Repeat this again to make the leaves a little thicker than the stem. Then come up through the bottom hole and repeat the process twice but on the left side.

With the needle on the back side of the fabric, make a knot so you can switch threads.

FLOWER ELABORATION WITH ANOTHER THREAD COLOR

Thread your needle with your flower color, and pierce the fabric from the back side and up through the top hole. Now, wrap the needle 3 or 4 with the thread and then pass the needle through the top hole again to create a ‘French Knot.’

FINAL DESIGN

Tie off your thread on the back side and remove the pin and... Ta-da! You now have an embroidered button!
