ESPADRILLES CARE TUTORIAL

   MODEL: THALIS

Splendidly comfortable and versatile, espadrilles have become the perfect shoe for everyday use throughout the season ranging from May to October. Their vulcanized jute soles are suitable for sand, cement, and grass. Depending on the model, they can be worn to work, on bike rides, or dressed up for fancy events. No other shoe is as multi-talented or multi-tasking!

Since they are so comfortable that we don’t want to ever take them off, the jute soles of espadrilles can undergo certain changes. But don’t worry! We’ll show you how to take care of them so they always look brand new!

Below we offer some suggestions for the most common problems:

   A.

   B.

Does your jute sole have a loose string?

No problem! Don’t worry, your espadrille is not going to become unstitched. The soles are made up of lots of fibers which are sewn together with plenty of thread. If any of those threads have escaped, you have two options:

A. Cut it off at the level of the sole.

B. Using a punch or sharp object, poke the end of the thread back into the sole.

Is the rubber outsole becoming detached?

The jute soles are finished with a rubber outsole to protect the fibers against surfaces like asphalt, rocks, or water. Sometimes, due to use and exposure to extreme temperatures, this outsole can become detached. If this happens, you have 2 options:

A. If you are handy, glue it back on with contact adhesive. You can buy this at any hardware store.

B. Bring your Naguisas to your trusted cobbler. They will surely know what to do :)

Have your espadrilles gotten wet?

Jute fibers don’t get along too well with water, but if you happened to step in a puddle or got stuck in an unexpected summer storm, we have a couple of solutions.

A. If the sole is only a little wet, you can dry it with a hair dryer. Avoid drying them in the sun as it may affect the color of the leather.

B. However, if the sole has absorbed a lot of water and caused it to swell, it’s probably time to retire your Naguisas :(

Has a stitch come undone?

Espadrilles are hand-sewn by artisans, so accumulated use over time or the force of walking could lead to part of the jute sole coming unstitched from the leather upper. If this happens, send us a picture at customercare@naguisa.com we will assess whether we need to pick up your espadrilles for repair in our studio/workshop.

Is the leather stained?

With use, it is common for leather to get scuffed or stained. As with any other shoe, here is a short tutorial on how to care for your espadrilles:

A. First, take an eraser and clean the scuffs and marks present on the leather.

B. Use a slightly damp, clean cloth to wipe away any encrusted dirt.

C. Let your shoes dry in a dry place away from sunlight.

D. Use a sponge to gently spread a COLORLESS nourishing cream over the leather.

E. Polish the espadrilles with a soft-bristled brush to restore the leather's natural luster.

Remember, the best way to store your espadrilles is to roll newspaper into balls and place these inside the shoes as a last. This will prevent them from flattening or losing their shape when stored.

All shoes have a lifespan, but if you take care of them, you can lengthen it.

If you have any questions or concerns, the Naguisa team would be delighted to help you and provide possible solutions. In the event of improper use or wear due to the passing of time, we cannot bear responsibility for certain products.
