A STROLL THROUGH A CORUÑA

Cold weather can’t put a halt to our desire to see art, try local foods and discover new cities.

This winter we travelled to A Coruña to visit the workshop of ceramic artist Verónica Moar. While there, we took the opportunity to stroll through a magical city with surprises hidden around every corner. Join us for a mini guided tour of A Coruña!

Our visit was short, but thanks to some tips from friends and Verónica herself, we discovered a down-to-earth city packed with culture. We start our journey at her study, chatting about her projects and experiences (you can read our interview with her here).

After a pleasant chat surrounded by stunning ceramic pieces, we started walking towards the Ensanche barrio. From Praza de Lugo, or Lugo Square, we were mesmerized by the modernist architecture around the central market.

We continued along our path with a mandatory stop at Vilaseco Gallery. There we enjoyed the Ardora exhibition by Gloria García Lorca, inspired by bioluminescence, called Mar de Ardora, when sea water glows in the dark as waves break. We also discovered the project 12 Miradas, a program with the goal of fostering creativity within the plastic arts, design, and architecture.

We left the gallery and ran into Castroseis, a lovely designer furniture and accessories store that we immediately fell for. On the same street, we take the opportunity to go to Candela Calzados, where you can find your favorite NAGUISA.

After this initial leg, our bodies were clamoring for some energy, so we ventured into the old town in search of some traditional wine and fish. After our previous stopover to try the local cuisine, we ended up licking our lips at Taberna Benboa with an “octopus hot dog.”

In an unsurprising turn of events, we got caught in the rain and had to seek shelter in Waco, a small specialty coffee shop that roasts its own beans.

KAUS BROWN, PERFECT FOR WINTER WEATHER.

Between the rain and the few hours of daylight during the winter months, twilight caught up with us during our relaxed stroll between Riazor beach and Ozán beach. So we decided to end our walk and enjoy the view of the Atlantic ocean from an improvised viewing point.

After such a brief visit, we are sure we will be back, which is why we invite you to share with us your special places in this special city.
