HOW A BRAIDED BELT IS MADE?

The craftsmanship that goes into braiding leather by hand is virtually a lost art. That’s why here at Naguisa we want to show you the step-by-step process followed by our artisans to ensure that an accessory as ubiquitous as a belt acquires the value it deserves.

Today we’re visiting the Carlos’ workshop to show you how one of our braided belts, a brand new product we’ve added to the Naguisa catalogue, is made.

The main material used to manufacture these accessories is leather. As with the leather used in our boots, espadrilles and sandals, we use vegetable-tanned leather, which is more natural and more environmentally friendly.

Once we have selected the ideal leather to make the belt, it is glued to another piece of leather so that both sides are flawless. It is then cut into strips of the desired length.

Next, the artisan takes these pre-cut strips of leather and begins to braid them carefully by hand to form the length of the belt. This process requires painstaking efforts to ensure the braid stays flat and therefore feels comfortable when worn around the waist.

For the buckle, a piece of pre-punched leather is glued to a metal base. Tools are used to carefully adapt the leather to the shape of the buckle. This piece is then buffed and the two pieces that form the end product are assembled to create a belt that will make the perfect life-long accessory.

Braided belts are highly popular thanks to their timeless elegance. Whether you use it to add a finishing touch to an outfit or to cinch your waist when wearing a long, flowing dress, a braided belt is synonymous with style. It also conveys an air of confidence and can transform a simple look into a striking one.
