INTERVIEW WITH DANIELA AGUIRRE

N.: Entrepreneur, creative director… What makes you dance, lifts your spirits and enlightens you?

DA: I love spending time with my family, traveling and creating. Playing sports lifts my spirits, going out for drinks with my friends makes me dance and creating new products, content, designs, photos and videos for Qara lights me up.

N.: How did Wisdom of Qara come about? What led you to start your own project?

DA: Wisdom of Qara was born after 4 years working in the beauty industry. I wanted to start my own business and I was very interested in cosmetics and it also allowed me to draw on my experience at Yanbal. At the beginning of 2020, I traveled to the Peruvian Amazon and spent a few days with Heriberto, a shaman and healer who introduced me to the use of medicinal plants and shamanic philosophy. And that was what inspired Qara: the combination of the scientific rigor that had always guided us at Yanbal with the shamanic philosophy of respect and appreciation for nature.

N.: You come from a family involved in cosmetics. Has skin care been a recurring theme at home since you were little?

DA: Yes, since I was born I have been linked to the world of beauty, through the company that my grandfather founded and that my mother now runs. Although makeup, fragrances and skin care have always been present in my life as part of my mother's job and now also mine, beauty at home has always been focused on the idea of being healthy, eating well and exercising, a much more internal beauty.

N.: Do you remember sharing beauty rituals with your mother and sister as a child?

DA: More than beauty rituals, I remember always trying out all the new products, whether creams, lipsticks, or fragrances, that my mother would send me to approve and that she would let us try them out and choose our favorite. I remember that my sister taught me how to do my makeup and then I was the one who did all my friends' makeup. I also remember going on trips together, the three of us, and always going to the cosmetics floor in shopping malls and trying out all the latest releases.

N.: Our health is determined by what we eat, but also by what we put into our bodies. What are some of your holistic tips for nourished skin (especially during the summer)?

DA: To look your best in the summer, I always recommend cleansing, moisturizing, and protecting your face well. Use a good cleanser that is gentle on the skin, like Between Dreams, which uses enzymatic exfoliants and camu camu to gently cleanse and exfoliate the skin. Then, use a moisturizer, preferably without essential oils or fragrances that can stain the skin with sun exposure, like Secret Calyx. And finally, what is key is to use sunscreen every day and apply it several times a day.

Other tips that work very well for me in summer are:

1. Play sports (with a cap and sunscreen, always)

2. Eat: Citrus fruits (foods with high vitamin C content have a powerful antioxidant power and help in the formation of collagen). Avocado , rich in fats and high in Omega 3 fatty acids and tomato , which helps prevent photoaging.

3. And of course, drink lots of water!
