SHOP STORIES: MUMA
MEET LORENA MENDIKUTE AND HER SHOP IN EIBAR

LORENA MENDIKUTE WITH URSA

We always say that, for Naguisa , the Basque Country is special, and that is because it is home to people like Lorena Mendikute and her Muma store. Since Lorena opened the doors of Muma in the small town of Éibar in 2006, she has been faithful to her principles, betting on local brands with values such as top quality materials or local production. Today, Lorena opens the doors of Muma for us, a store that has trusted Naguisa since 2017, to tell us more about her wonderful project.

Who is Lorena? How would you define yourself?

I am a simple, shy person, but I would say I am also friendly. I like fashion, clean cuts, geometric shapes, volumes and well-made things. I also like music, dancing and laughing until I cry.

When did you open Muma? Could you tell us a brief history of your store? What inspired you to launch your own business?

I opened MUMA in 2006. I had returned from Milan after studying fashion design and I knew I wanted to live in my hometown, Eibar. My father encouraged me to open the shop and without giving it much thought I went for it.

Can you share a moment that you will always remember as an entrepreneur?

Reopening the shop after lockdown. It was a great feeling to be back at work and feel the love of my clients, they went out of their way.

Of all our designs to date, which is your favorite winter Naguisa?

I love braided shoes, my flatmate worked at Bottega Veneta and drooled over her bags and I love the braided ones from Naguisa , they are amazing! One of my winter favourites is the moccasin from the AW19 collection.
