Interview with Bibi Carol
In the world of vibrant prints and colours created by Bibi Carol, it's always summer. The creator of SUTURA PATTERNS invites us to take some time for ourselves, equip ourselves with a needle and thread and, with her help, start preparing for what will be a special summer.
Their nostalgic approach to the world of fashion is gaining more and more followers every day: creating beautiful swimsuits with classic patterns that proclaim an ode to comfort and durability, as well as promoting craftsmanship and inviting us to immerse ourselves in continuous learning.
N.: Could you briefly define yourself and explain your relationship with swimwear?
BC: I am a very sensitive, shy and rather introverted person. I operate on the basis of what we could call firefighter ideas, but I don't carry out anything that hasn't crossed my mind a thousand times, weighing up all the pros and cons. I am quite stubborn. I have always sought to surround myself with beauty and I feel comfortable doing things with my hands. I studied fashion design because what I wanted to do was sew. In my last year I really enjoyed the swimwear class, I did an internship at the teacher's brand and stayed there for 6 years. I love swimwear, I can't explain why, but I do know that it's what I like and I know how to do it.
N.: Where did the idea for Sutura Patterns come from?
BC: I have always liked to do things my way and that, in my world, means having my own brand. What I didn't quite see was the way, because I was clear that the processes involved in having a conventional brand don't really fit my rhythm. On the other hand, I have been teaching workshops for many years in which I teach how to sew bikinis and swimsuits. The students always complained about how difficult it was to find nice swimwear fabrics and current patterns. The idea was going around in my head for a long time, until one day, a couple of years ago (shortly after leaving my job and becoming self-employed) the idea became super obvious and everything fell into place.

N.: What is Sutura ?
BC: Sutura is an experience, a learning process and a result in the form of a bikini or swimsuit. Sutura are kits that include everything you need to sew your own swimwear at home. The first and most difficult thing is to choose a model and a colour or print. From here, you receive, on the one hand, the fabric, the lining, the fittings and the pattern. On the other hand, via email, the step-by-step instructions and access to the video tutorials on the website. All you need is a sewing machine and a little sewing experience to be able to wear a bikini and say “I made it myself”, which is so exciting for those of us who sew our own clothes.
N.: Can you describe your ideal summer? Your first memory of being by the sea or the pool?
BC: When I was little I didn’t like going to the beach. Instead I spent the summer in a pool: I loved swimming, playing in the water, diving and touching the bottom. I perfectly remember the day I learned to dive headfirst and the summer photos in which I look happiest wearing a swimsuit and I’m in or near a pool. My ideal summer has a lot to do with this, which is what inspired “La Nostalgia”, the latest collection by Sutura . Stopping, slowing down time, long days, spending the day soaking (now I really enjoy the beach and the sea), eating ice cream, dinners and outdoor concerts with friends. I wish August lasted fifteen days longer than the rest of the months.
