Walk around Ciutadella

Summer is swimming, reading or strolling along narrow streets between tangerine and peach coloured buildings, all under the shade of palm and pomegranate trees. It’s the season when the clock stops completely at siesta time and the lunches stretch out eternally amidst laughter. Now it is only the sun and the cathedral bells that mark the passage of time.

Summer is synonymous with waking early and going down to have breakfast in the Plaça del Mercat. Disappearing between the green and white tiles to joke with the women in blue aprons. Loading up a basket with the catch of the day, some cheese, olive oil and wine that taste of the sun-baked earth before setting off to search for some hidden spot to soak up the rays.

Summer is knowing that June, July, August and September will eventually turn into a sigh when you walk along the rocky coves, where the tramuntana wind whips its ceaseless gusts, or when you are struck by the sudden and lasting impression of steep fields of crops dotted with the shepherds’ stone huts. Summer also brings a desire to discover the work of local artisans, to put on some espadrilles and ride a bike to explore the city from one end to the other.

Summer is spending the day chasing the blue sky along the old coastal paths and trying to stop time on this beautiful island so you can enjoy this landscape forever.
