SHOP STORIES: MUMA

MEET LORENA MENDIKUTE AND HER STORE IN EIBAR

LORENA MENDIKUTE WITH URSA

Here at Naguisa, we’ve always said that the Basque Country is special to us, in part because you can find there people like Lorena Mendikute and her store Muma. Since Lorena inaugurated Muma in 2006 in the small town of Eibar, she’s held fast to her principles by supporting local brands and valuing high-quality materials and local production. Today, Lorena opens the doors of Muma, a store that’s been collaborating with Naguisa since 2017, to tell us more about her fabulous project.

Who is Lorena, how would you define yourself?

I am a simple person, shy and I would say that also close. I like fashion, clean cuts, geometric, volumes and things well done. I also like music, dancing and laughing until I cry.

When did you open Muma? Can you tell us a brief history of your store? What prompted you to launch your own business?

I opened MUMA in 2006. I came back from Milan from studying fashion design and it was clear to me that I wanted to live in my hometown, Eibar. My father encouraged me to open the store and without giving it too much thought I took the plunge.

Can you share a moment you will always remember as an entrepreneur?

To reopen the store after the confinement. It was a rush to go back to work and feel the affection of my customers, they turned to me.

Of all our designs to date, which is your favorite winter Naguisa?

I love braided bags, my roommate worked at Bottega Veneta and drooled over her bags and it's the same with Naguisa's braided bags, they are wonderful! One of my winter favorites is the loafer from the AW19 collection.
