About | Naguisa

NAGUISA (næˈgiːza), in japanese: the pattern the surf of the sea draws on the shoreline. I was born in the summer of 2012 on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, the result of the union between product designer Claudia Pérez Polo and architect Pablo Izquierdo López. We mapped out a route with a clear destination to which we stuck tenaciously: to give life to beautiful shoes that would adapt to each person’s feet. Because what’s the point of having pretty shoes if you can’t walk in them? We navigated the immense ocean of handmade manufacturing and found a great ally in jute. The goal then became a little more challenging: to revive this strong, natural material, giving it a beautiful shape and making it utterly functional. Completely committed to this option, the way in which the shoes were received was tremendously exciting. Naguisa is now present in over 20 countries thanks to the women around the world who have shown us, ever since we set sail on this adventure, that we are not alone as we cross the high seas and that they are absolutely on board with this opportunity to wear comfortable, distinguished shoes. In step with real life; in step with tradition and modernity.

Pablo is the fastest key on the Naguisa keyboard. A head of impeccable architecture at the top of the organogram. Pablo is swift and synthesizing; he is the watch whose battery never runs down, the optimal and precise assembly of components that makes the entire business process run smoothly so we can have our Naguisa shoes ready. Even when we are stretched to the limit, Pablo has a particular knack for lightening any situation with extreme practicality, elegance and serenity. We love his expression ‘Calm, ladies,’ and he gives us the soothing sensation that everything will be all right in the end. It’s like touching wood, that piece of wood he picked up during the dreams of his childhood, so that one day he could set up a small carpentry workshop to bring his imagination to life. Pablo is courteous and cheerful, a soul born to ride on the tandem of life with his unconditional partner Claudia and their two treasures, Lola and Olivia. A man who exists to build and to simplify, to be a leader and to set the benchmark, to seek alternative routes when the storm sets in. Pablo always has a plan B… and plans up to Z. We have no idea where he gets his ideas from. Well, we do: from his top hat. Because Pablo is pretty comical too, he’s one of those men who show us that seriousness is not undermined by laughter and that ingenuity is about never ceasing to imagine new possibilities for us to evolve and transform.

Claudia’s hands build from a heart that is open to the world; she is from another planet, though we haven’t discovered which one, but what we do know is that her universe is immense and exceptionally beautiful, appropriate for someone who touches the sea and feels the breeze to find a sensation that inspires her. Marvellously humane, witty and capable, yet she is incapable of sitting still until she knows that each one of the designs she herself has created is supported by functionality. A long-distance runner, Claudia also likes to train and delve into the knowledge of the arts and our trade to extract all its splendour, putting everything at the service of the Naguisa creations. Claudia conceptualises and designs, provides and proposes, organises and coordinates; her fresh complexion harbours a microscopic gaze, eyes that see everything in 360-degree vision. Her ability to turn the world upside down is amazing: eliminating barriers between countries and looking at a global level in order to adapt to a local level. Enviously admirable, Claudia is a woman we love to listen to, because she always has something interesting to tell us. The other day she confess that she would like to ‘stop the battery’ in her partner Pablo’s clock, that battery that never seems to run out, so that she can wind down from the rhythm of the city and swim with their children each summer evening in her beloved Menorca.

The history of Naguisa itself is filled with honesty in our creations, nobility in the materials, utility in every detail, humanity in the team and closeness in our relationships. But above all it is the history of a shoe firm true to its roots and one which is capable of transformation: we are not afraid to leave our comfort zone to continue offering you the same comfort as we have always done while translating it into novel proposals of design and colour with each collection. I was born in the summer of 2012 on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea.
