HOW IS A BELT MADE?

The craft of hand-braiding leather is almost a lost art. That is why, at Naguisa, we want to show you, step by step, how an accessory as common as a belt, in the hands of our artisans, acquires the value it deserves.

Today we go into Carlos' workshop to show you how one of our braided belts is made, a new product that we have added to the Naguisa catalogue.

Leather is the main component used to make these accessories. As with the leather used for our boots, espadrilles and sandals, we use vegetable tanned leather, which is more natural and more environmentally friendly.

Once the ideal leather for making the belt has been chosen, it is glued together with another leather so that both sides are good and it is cut into strips of the desired length.

Next, a craftsman takes these previously cut strips of leather and begins to carefully braid by hand what will be the length of the belt. This process is done meticulously so that the braid is flat and does not bother the waist when wearing it.

For the buckle, a metal base is used on which a previously die-cut piece of leather is glued. With care and the help of some tools, the leather is adapted to the shape of the buckle. This piece is then polished and the two pieces that form the final belt are assembled, resulting in a perfect accessory that will last a lifetime.

Braided belts are very popular due to their timeless elegance. Whether used to finish off an outfit or to add a bit of shape to a long dress, the braided belt is synonymous with style. It also gives off a message of confidence and can turn a simple look into a statement with a simple twist around your waist.
